The Nova Scotia Before and After Program (NS-BAP), supported by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD), is guided by the following core pillars:

• 24-Hour Movement Guidelines
• Outdoor Play
• Physical Literacy
• Inclusive and Culturally Responsive Practices

NS-BAP is delivered by approved childcare, municipal recreation or recognized non-profit providers. The Program offers children access to engaging, developmentally appropriate programming in a familiar environment - where they already spend much of their day. This model makes effective use of existing infrastructure while minimizing disruption for families. NS-BAP is available to children from Pre-primary through Grade 6, with priority given to younger students.

Families are required to pay a fee, which may vary depending on the provider. However, financial assistance may be available through the Nova Scotia Child Care Subsidy Program, based on household income.
