Veterans' Week is a time to honour, celebrate, remember and thank all those who have served and are currently serving Canada in times of war, military conflict and peacekeeping missions.
As noted on the Veterans Affairs Canada website, this year’s Veterans’ Week poster, In the Service of Peace, honours the service, courage and sacrifice at home, around the world and across generations. Learn more at 2023 Veterans’ Week Poster.
2023 marks the 75th anniversary of United Nations peacekeeping. Canada has a long history of helping defend and maintain peace around the world. More than 125,000 Canadian Armed Forces members have served in international peacekeeping efforts in dozens of countries. Learn more at 2023 Veterans’ Week.
All Canadians, especially youth, are asked to make remembrance more than something you feel - make it something you do by taking an active role in commemoration. Schools in the Strait Region take time to remember through a variety of activities including, but not limited to, in-class discussion and instruction; ceremonies; reading, writing and art activities; as well as displays.
Taking part in remembrance activities develops a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and achievements of those who have served and continue to serve. There are many ways to commemorate Remembrance Day, November 11, and Veterans' Week 2023 including observing one minute of silence, watching or attending a Remembrance Day ceremony, reading a book, speaking with and thanking a Veteran or Legion Member or wearing a poppy above your heart. The important thing is to take time to remember.
The Strait Regional Centre for Education extends sincere thanks to all veterans and Royal Canadian Legion members who give generously of their time to help students in the Strait Region develop a deeper understanding of remembrance and of the sacrifices and achievements of those who served and continue to serve Canada.
We recognize and remember their courage, service and sacrifice.
