The Strait Regional Centre for Education’s mission is “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.”
An accessible and equitable education system reflects the fair, inclusive, and respectful treatment of all people and is essential to the engagement, well-being and achievement of all learners.
The Student Equity Consultant works with staff, students and families to:
- provide leadership, assistance and support towards an equitable education system. This includes recognizing and addressing systemic barriers and maintaining the dignity and human rights of all learners in regard to equity issues, inclusion, student achievement, well-being, and engagement.
- work with the Coordinators of Mi’kmaw Education Services and African Canadian Education Services, school staff, families, and community partners to promote and enhance equity and assist in ensuring safe and inclusive schools.
- help to create and monitor policies, programs, curricula, instruction, professional development, and other initiatives related to equity in Education.
- provide educational support in specific situations where an inequity or discrimination has occurred, in collaboration with Coordinator of Mi’kmaw Education Services and African Canadian Education Services.
- work with families and equity seeking organizations within their region to ensure parents and communities feel a key part of schools and their services.
